Welcome to Bushwalking

Bushwalk

Let's prepare to have fun and thrive out on track

Bushwalking is not rocket science but you need to be prepared and have the right gear. The longer the walk and the more extreme environments you explore the more important this becomes, so start small and local and build up your skills. Bushwalking is an enjoyable life long pursuit, don't rush the journey of learning it is all part of the fun.

You will also have more fun if you eat well and are fit enough. The more prepared you are the more you will be able to relax and enjoy your time on the track. These articles will help you pack well, understand the conditions you may experience, set helpful expectations, eat well and enjoy walking even in wet and cold weather.

There is a lot of information here but not all skills can be learned online, if you are new to bushwalking then reach out to bushwalking friends and learn from their experience and practical skills. There is a great community at bushwalk.com/forum/ who can also help with much wisdom acquired over the years. Be comfortable with the idea that "we don't know what we don't know", these articles and chatting with other bushwalkers will help to start to fill in these gaps.
