Planning

todo

Let us begin by acknowledging the Dharug and Gundungurra people, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we plan to travel, and pay our respects to their Elders past and present.

An important key to enjoying any bushwalk is to 'walk your own walk'. Think about what it is that you are looking forward to the most: photography, quiet time, meeting new people, getting fit, relaxing, learning new skills or getting a deeper understanding of the region. Whatever the reasons, keep them front of mind as you plan, chat about it with your walking buddies then get out there and enjoy this awesome track.

The 6FT leads through some very diverse environments from farmland to pristine natural landscapes. Each day is different from the last. Most people walk the track in one go, but you can do it as day walks or overnight walks. Most people walk from east to west, starting at Katoomba and walking to Jenolan, but either way is fine. There are campsites and toilets every 5-15 kilometres and even a lodge at the Coxs River. You'll find water tanks at each campsite or creeks from which you can collect water (and treat it before consuming).

As well as getting a sense of each section of the walk, you will want to put together an itinerary. Here are some suggestions.
