I saw malcom Douglas go toe to toe with a big red once. The roo was close to 6ft. He demonstrated that if the roo was attacking you all you had to do was get down on the ground lower than the roo. The roo no longer thought he was a threat and the roo backed off straight away.

Might not work all the time but it did when he did it.

for those who are a bit younger malcom Douglas was like steve irwin but alot earlier. He died a few years ago in a car accident. His vidoes are very good.

A smallish Polish friend got attacked by a big roo once, where we lived in Melbourne. She came around the corner of a building and surprised it. She hadn't come across the above advice. When asked later what she did, she confidently replied, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world to do: 'I kicked back, of course!'

It must have been a buck - a doe would have no need for a backpack.

It says in there also, to turn side on if you get in an altercation with one and to quickly move away whilst protecting your body with your arms and watching your face. Dropping to the ground should be a last resort so they say...

It's a good thing we're past the point of seeing this sort of thing used as entertainment I reckon. Doesn't sit well in my boat...

That kind of thing does seem to have fallen from favor a little. Of course these days there are so many things to object to do one hardly knows were to begin.

Yea, I agree there are plenty of ethical "hot-topics" like this around today. While the old boxing kangaroo tents are probably a thing now of a bygone era, activities like horse racing, for example, are still on the cards and one could argue a similar case on welfare grounds.

The absence of kangaroo fighting is probably only a small step towards improving animal welfare in a global context, but I think changes like this are important nonetheless as they help to shape people's views on animal welfare and their morals in regards to how animals should be treated. They help in setting a standard.
