bird watching

Thu 05 Aug, 2010 9:26 pm

HI all,
my parents will come over to Tassie from Europe this summer and my dad is interested in some bird watching. Now I don't know much about birds or where to find some special ones, apart from the Tamar island maybe. My dad also asked if there is a place in Tassie where you can see Albatross. So any tips for good locations are welcome.

Thanks,
samh

Bruny Island is great, if you do the cruise to the bottom of Sth Bruny, you are almost guaranteed to see Albatross species plus Sea Eagles, Shearwaters by the thousand, Ganets etc etc

Hi,

Albys are not often seen from land but are pretty common off shore. If he is crossing on the boat and the wind is up, its pretty likely he will see some dynamic soaring the wind sheer or ridge soaring above the swells in the straight.

Ken

We saw three types at one time with a bunch of other birds on one of the Tasman Penin. Wilderness Cruises. EXTREMELY highly recommended.
