These are probably spammers who have sneaked past the filters. I checked a few and there are no posts from them. As with a number of website issues it comes down to competing priorities and limited resources.

I looked at a few and nearly all are spam. Someone versed in PHP and/or SQL is needed to stop the spammers. My remit runs to COBOL and FORTRAN. It's pretty difficult without punched cards.

Overlandman, thanks. Sometimes spammers and scammers sneak past the filters, and this is one of them. I've banned the mongrel but the name will be in the birthday list for today. Ask me in a year if it works. Once they are in the system it's a bit hard to remove them in bulk.

Thanks guys for reporting these.
This has been a helpful way to clear out spammers who have got through the spam filters, but not yet posted.
I have run a query looking for large clusters of birthdays and Lophophaps is kindly waving goodbye to a bunch more.
We have a better system in place now that has reduced dodgy signups -- but still working through the backlog that got through over time.

There’s a few in today’s birthday list.

That person or bot is now gone. Thanks. The filters are being upgraded, but it's a long process.

THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING. THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING

The problem is that the Russians are using a GPS that only works in the northern hemisphere, something to do with the dip in the needle I believe. Also, Russians get confused very easily, and may think that Australia is Austria. The Russian embassy has been advised of the mistake. It is hoped that the Russians will not be bushwalking in Australia or even visit - they tend to bring proscribed items like tanks, the 2S7 Pion, and the SPAAG-M, Self-Propelled Anti-Aircraft Gun – Missile. Also, these are not allowed as hand luggage. They tend to sneak around the filters, creating chaos. Defences are being raised but the Russian continue to be sneaky. For now, moderators are doing the best to turn da into nyet. Lamont, thank you for your observation, comrade.

Is the SPAAG-M anything like Spag Bol?
If so, it would be good in the bush, but a little hard to heat up with a tuna can alcohol stove!

A SPAAG-M is a gun.
https://military-today.com/artillery/2s ... ya_pvo.htm It has enough firepower to heat up a tin of tuna. The military generally does not allow alcohol to be carried on such guns.

It seems like the admin changes last year slowed the spam bot tide, but there's still plenty of obvious ones in the member list.
The full member list is here:

Mods are aware of the spam members getting through the filters. Unfortunately the spam members can only be deleted one at a time, and this is a PITA. We're looking at a coding solution, but with a lot of competing priorities it's hard. Any post that is in breach of the rules will be acted on. A spam member with no posts is a nuisance, but as there's little or no harm being done they can stay - for now. That said, I'd really like to delete the lot of them and stop them arriving. Maybe
If "number of posts" = "nil" delete
will work. I'm no longer current in COBOL.

Hmm if one could put a fair timeframe on it, nil posts = delete seems a good auto option.
(I did the most basic computer basic course as a kid in the eighties so have no clue otherwise)

That person does not appear on the member list. Odd. I'll attempt to find out what is happening. Offensive screen names are proscribed.
