TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Osprey exos packs

Does anyone have the Osprey Exos pack at all. As looking at a lighter pack and like the quality of osprey packs and would like to know what folks think of it.

i've got a talon 44, similar pack, i don't like it, the belts are pretty flimsy and don't hold or distribute much weight very well.
i wouldnt even sell it, i wouldnt wish it on anyone.....
i"m a bigger fan of their heavier packs and even better, black diamond packs...

actually looks like the exos has improved the hip belt recently, it's wider than the lightweight packs used to be and wider than my talon, this review seems to like it, b
but I think it will still come down to how much weight you put in it as to how well it will handle the weight.

I've got two of them, the small (34L) and the large 58L.

These are my go-to lightweight framed packs. The 58 is especially good for a large bulky load and it has lots of useful features. I recently used it for my trip on the Heysen trail from Victor Harbor to Mylor in SA carrying 5 days supplies and hammock camping kit. Robust for the weight and comfortable with that load (about 14kg)

I used the 34 lightly loaded recently on the Sea to Summit. I actually dragged out an older, smaller Osprey pack to use but when I weighed them the 34 was lighter than the older model Stratos 24L. :!: The Exos cinched down neatly and carried like it was not there. It just had a water bladder, jacket, first aid kit and snacks in it. I have noticed some of the foam in the shoulder straps of the 34 is starting to deteriorate, and also the 34 does not get the better hipbelt like the larger sizes (or perhaps it does now, mine is a couple of years old now)

The hipbelt buckle on both packs is a bit on the small side. I've replaced the buckle on one of them with a larger version (easy to do, no sewing required) Both packs have the usual Osprey excess straps issue, which can be solved with scissors. :)

I have the Exos 58 & I think it is a great pack. it is light & very comfortable (for me) the weight is very good for a pack that has some of the nice extras such as zip pockets on the hipbelt. The materials are typical for a lightweight pack, it is not one that I would take on a long trip through serious scrub, and you need to look after it to make it last. but that is lightweight gear in general & not a criticism.

I agree about the hip belt buckle..... it is small & looked too delicate, so I replaced it with a more robust version (it took about 30 seconds to do this).

Overall I am very happy with it.....

I have the 46 and love it. Incredibly comfy and carries very well. I love the ventilated back in hot weather. I usually carry around 12kgs in it and I simply don't notice its there (to the point that Ill usually keep it on when resting or on side trips). Pockets are great and so far the fabrics been fine. I don't take it off track in thick scrub up here in QLD as theres lots of nasties and I have a tougher pack for that.

Another exos 46 big fan here :D :D

I've never had a hipbelt issue or found any discomfort at all. You just have to realise this isn't a 25kg hauling machine.
Loads kept to around or better still under the 12-14kg range will do great.

Get down under that an it's a dream come true. Normal for me at the start of a trip is about 9kgs and it's almost non noticable.
They are a great featured pack that for weight are hard to beat with that vented back.

Like all packs, just get the sizing right.

I've also clinched mine down for plenty of day walks. The compression system works very well.
I am a GEAR JUNKIE and GRAM COUNTER !!

There, It's out. I said it, Ahh I feel better now

With 6.8kg it will be like carrying a bag of feathers :)

All depends what you add to that base weight, the longer the trip the more food you need :(

Cheers.

I have this pack,it's a beauty, mesh back, light at 1.1kg, snug fit.
Just had it out in rough territory yesterday and today, I started with about 11kgs.
As previously mentioned, I reckon it work's well in that 10-12 kg range.

Osprey exos packs

Postby JoshT » Wed 27 Jun, 2012 10:09 am

I've got an Exos 46 in size Large, which is apparently 49L. It's been good at carrying around 12kg, and just fits my weekend trip leaders kit.

The only thing I don't love when compared to my other Osprey bag (an Eclipse) is there is no cinch strap to join the side of the hip belt onto the pack. Probably doesn't really need it, but I find it wobbles around my hips a little more.

For anyone looking at the Exos packs, I just ordered an Exos 46 pack from amazon last week for $127.71 shipping was $12.35. I think there was a pretty large price jump for the 58, which I considered but my gear should fit in a 46 comfortably.
