The after-Xmas sales are on, and I went shopping for a hiking shirt. I was interested in the Ken shirt at Kathmandu, but they didn't have it in small size. So I wandered down to Mountain Designs.
I bought a MD Bass long sleeve shirt, for $39.90, discounted from $99.95. I want something suitable for hot weather, and this shirt looks suitable, with venting down both sides.
Here is all the advertising blurb:

One of the reviewers stated that it is not the best for Aussie hot weather. I wonder why not? It isn't the lightest shirt, I weighed it: 237gm. For comparison, one of my cotton/polyester business shirts weighs 195gm.
This shirt is 100% polyester. Is that the best fabric for letting the breeze through, and moisture wicking?
Can anyone recommend what they think would be a better buy?
One requirement is I want long sleeve, for sun protection.
Also, I always wear a T-shirt underneath, and all that I own are cotton T-shirts. Is there any particular T-shirt that stands out as superb in hot dry weather, for wearing under a shirt?
An extra little note: Myer are also having their after-Xmas and New Year sale, and I picked up a Columbia Silver Ridge Convertible pant for $63. That sure is a nice pant, lots of good reviews. My personal very limited testing of it is it feels real nice and comfortable. Hmm, can't find that pant on the Myer web site, but here is the manufacturers page:

Any help will be appreciated!
