TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Final Tent Decision

I'm almost there and the time has come to decide. I am very close to getting the Hilleberg Nalo 2 GT to replace/supplement my aging MacPac Minaret.

This forum seems very pro the Nalo's but is it strong enough. I want light weight (getting older) but it will be used more as a hike in base than pick up and move thus the large vestibule has a lot of appeal. Are there other tents that I should be considering - will be used for just one person who likes a bit of space.

Nallo will certainly be strong enough, both poles and fabric are very good.

It is a lot of tent for most non tassie users, unless you spend a lot of time in the alps. There are lighter and cheaper options out there for situations where you don't need a 4 season tent.

Should have added that use will be alpine (Tas & Mainland) but only 3 season (if that's possible)

i would suggest that at least for Tas a tent with four season capability is good insurance - no matter when you walk. I have walked 100s of occassions through all seasons and snow in Tassie and would have been fine with a good 3 season tent. But when i finally got hit it was almost summer - and even the expedition 4 season tent was feeling not so safe for a while. You can't rely too much on the calendar season in parts of Tassie.

You'll love it. I've used mine in strong winds, snow, rain, storms, etc. No problems. A lovely tent, and really easy to pitch.
