TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

MD Main Range Pack

Postby AndyR » Sun 13 Nov, 2011 8:37 am

Hi all,

I need to replace my trusty 20yo Karrimor pack and had a look around at what's available in Hobart. I quite like the look of the Mountain Designs Main Range as it looks tough and is a simple clean design and the harness seemed comfortable. Is anyone using one of these? (a search didn't reveal anything) I'd be interested to hear any experiences good or bad. I know lots of people like the One Planet packs but they just don't quite do it for me.

Thanks,

Andy

Have a main range. Its fine. I had a Macpac Torre for many years, it was excellent, but the harness wore out eventually. MD had a special on so I bought the Main Range, absolutely no complaints, I regularly load it up with house bricks for training purposes between hikes and its quite OK, once everything is adjusted.

Hi,

Thanks for the response. The pack certainly felt comfortable with some weight in it but in the end I decided it probably wasn't quite big enough - when walking with the kids I need the capacity to become the mule. I've ended up going with a WE Lost World - another simple design but it felt comfortable when loaded up. Now to try it out :D

cheers, Andy
