TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

S2S Quagmire gaiters

Sat 29 Dec, 2012 4:49 pm

Hi all,

Bivouac have a 20% off sale at the moment so I thought I'd pick up a pair of Quagmire gaiters.

A question though, I'm just under 6ft and normally wear around a size 11-12 shoe (my Scarpas are a UK12/EU47), so which size gaiter would fit best?

I notice on the WildEarth website that they recommend a Medium for shoe size 41/42, Large for 43/44 and X-Large for 45/46. I'm thinking that surely I can't be an X-Large...plus I don't think I've ever actually seen a XL size gaiter in any of the camping stores in Hobart...??

Any personal experiences (including shoe size and height if possible) would be much appreciated!

Andrew.

5'10.5" Size 43 Shoe, the medium is a touch small and the large is a touch big :? I reckon Large would be the go for you, best try them on though.

I'm 180cm and have a US13 boot and I use XL size.
They fit well and I ordered them from Wildearth based on their size listing.

Thanks folks. I was hoping to buy online tonight, but I think I'll be better off dropping by one of the local shops and trying a pair of the large ones on. Better safe than sorry! :)

Measure your calves first, and check their sizing! I have pretty big, but not abnormal calves as a result of the amount of walking that I have done in the past, and a pair of XL Quagmires will not fit me at all, and I wear a US 11.5, and am around 6 ft 2 in.

Wow! I don't think I'm at any risk of that, but makes me even more keen to try them on rather than guessing!

Most places in Hobart stock Quagmires

I've noticed that, but I don't recall seeing any that stock XL size. I guess I'll see how the L goes and if it's too small I'll have to assume that XL is the way to go when ordering online.

Just looked at Bivouac. I swear they are only around the $70 mark in the shops anyway. And they also appear to still be selling the old Gore-Tex model that was replaced by the eVent model well over a year ago now.

Ebay is worth a look too..

Remember that those prices are in NZ dollars. They drop to around $55 in AU dollars with free shipping.

I did that when I was looking at buying a couple of sleeping mats earlier this year. I thought, "These prices are ok, but I might as well go local". Until it dawned on me and then it became a whole lot more attractive!

I'm also planning on getting a WindPro 2 stove through Bivouac as they've got 20% off that as well.

Well, looks like the large is the size for me. While both were quite high up the calf, the XL (I found a pair at Mountain Designs) was right up around the knee and was just a little bit too loose for my liking.

Thanks again for the assistance!

Andrew.

I'm 6 ft. and wear a 45 1/2 size boot. the large Quagmire is a good firm fit around the boot, ( Zamberlan Vioz) with plenty of adjustment left in the tops, with my average size calves
