TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

My new hat

(Note - I have no affiliation with the product I am describing.)

I have been looking for a new hat for some time.

I wanted one that is light, functional, foldable and looks good. Unfortunately most did not fit these criterion and if they fitted the first two or three they did not fit the last.

I found this http://www.exofficio.com/products/detai ... re-hat-f12

I have used it several times now and it is quite effective. I have also used it in the rain and whilst not intended to be a waterproof hat it did keep my head dry. It has a built-in bug repellent that is meant to last for 70 washes. It seems to keep most bugs away from me although it does not stop them from approaching. It is very comfortable to wear.

I like that it keeps an even rim, not "up and down" like some hats.

It has a strap to hold it on in high winds.

It was available from a prominent Australian outdoor retailer for $80 (with a one day only 20% discount when I saw it so $64).

I purchased it on eBay from the USA for US$27.95 plus US$14.39 shipping so US$42.34 total which was about the same in $A.

Worth a look in my opinion.

i was going to say you could buy a cheaper hat like that anywhere, but as you say the brim is even all round and those well deesigned hats are harder to find...
thank heaven for online shopping , who would pay $80 or $65 for a sun hut? must be some people if theya re going to charge that. people who will pay anything for a product just make it harder for everyone else when the retailers keep over charging.

Agree its very hard to find hats that are both functional and look good. Here are a couple Ive had my eye on:-

Real Deal Tarp Hat

Indiana Jones style fedora

Emphasis more on looks than function with these hats I suppose!
