TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

me and Macpac

Wed 15 May, 2013 6:24 pm

Hi Folks,
I'm posting here as most of my posts have been in equipment, although I totally understand if admin chose to move this to a more suitable location.

I just wanted to make it known and clear that I am no longer part of Macpac. I am no longer head of design, nor a director and have no ongoing interest in the business. I am not going to go into any details of how/why/ when/where, I simply want clear transparency on this fact. My views, comments, advice or endorsements in no way represent Macpac, they are just my own. While I have always endeavoured to represent with honesty and balance, I want clear separation from myself and Macpac henceforth.

cheers all,
Campbell Junor (the blacksheep)

Thanks Blacksheep,

Good luck with whatever comes next.

I hope you continue to provide yourr perspective from the 'other side of the fence' on these various gear issues (not just macpac).

Thanks for all your help in the past with Macpac issues Campbell. You have been a good ambassador for them and provided me/us with good input from the other side of the fence.

I was wondering what your signature was about a few weeks ago. :-)

But thanks heaps for your participation on the forums here as an industry representative over the last few years. I know that many of the members have appreciated it and no other people from other equipment organisations have been engaged with the bushwalking community here as you have. You've copped a lot flack from some quarters and persisted in being a good ambassador for the company.

I hope your next endeavour is more exciting and fulfilling than the last one.

Shoudnit be "Macpac and I".....?

Like many others, Campbell, I have been very impressed with your involvement in this forum to maintain your company's reputation.

Tonight I spent a fair bit of time trying to read the "gone to the dogs" postings.

I think people fail to fully understand evolution of fabrics, gear design, and personal gear requirements.

I make most of my stuff these days (except tents) dependent on specific use. I spend a lot of time sorting out designs that suit me, and then finding fabrics to make them. I have no problems with my home made gear. This is not because it is better made. It is because I know it's limitations, and I use it within them (and I'm happy to fix any problems, because they are my responsibility). As soon as you try to fulfil the needs of a larger retail market, you run into all sorts of problems.

How do you make something that will suit Tassie scrub, and be light enough for the Apalachian trail. The fabrics are getting better, but don't exist.

Anyway, you have gone out of your way to defend the Macpac brand against some pretty harsh criticism.

Best wishes.

If I can publicly join the fray and reiterate what everyone has already said, that would save a lot of quoting.
Hope to see you on our tracks before long if circumstances permit.

As alluded to in an earlier post which got me thinking, it would be really interesting to hear your opinions of other gear in the occasional equipment topic if you are inclined to be bothered offering them - with a person of such depth of knowledge and coming from the perspective of a designer and user, they will surely make for interesting reading.

Cheers!
Adam.

I wanted to add another voice of appreciation too. Sharing your experience and expertise has been really valuable, Campbell.

But it's the non-defensive and genuinely helpful way you've gone above and beyond the call of duty, in the face of some unfair aggression, that is such an outstanding example. Very well done. :D

All the best in whatever you do next.

No, as that would denote a collective. Which they are no longer!

What's wrong with "Macpac and I .....are no more"???

Better English usesge, but I'm just playing with you. The grammar is irrelevant. Campbell has provided an amazingly useful input to this forum about Macpac ESP.

ahemm.....'usage'

Sorry, couldn't help myself

Maybe Campbell was using a contraction of 'About Me and Macpac', and we can give him the benefit of the grammatical doubt. 8)

So andrewa, when asked the question 'who did you go to the shops with?' , do you say 'me and him' or 'I and him'?

By the way thanks blacksheep for your posts in the past

The questions is incorrect. It should be: "With whom did you go to the shops?"

Ahem... I think that you might find that 'the QUESTION is incorrect' is in better plural agreement than 'the QUESTIONS is incorrect'.

Either way I'm right - because grammar is a function of contemporary usage not archaic rules (that are often conflated with latin usage anyway).

Though I've contributed to the fascinating minefield of a tangent myself...I suggest we return to the content of the topic. :)

Re: me and Macpac

Thu 16 May, 2013 1:18 pm

But there isn't really a topic, it was more of an announcement - ie blacksheep has severed ties with Macpac. The only things left are to either go off on a tangent or indulge in lurid speculation regarding the circumstances of the split. :P

He has certainly been a good ambassador for the brand and has assisted several forum members with product issues, which I'm sure has been greatly appreciated by the individuals concerned. I hope his next endeavour is challenging and rewarding.

We can't assume this to be the case.

I"d take
"and have no ongoing interest in the business"

to mean he has cut all ties....

Or that they have cut ties with him...

It can't be determined one way or the other. All that has been said is that an interest (presumably commercial) is no longer held. Out of respect for Cam I don't think its fair to speculate.

Re: me and Macpac

ok

that all ties have been cut
