Looking at buying a thermarest xtherm . Couple of questions are they durable enough under a tent floor or for the wieght a xlight with a closed cell foam pad for winter and protection???

I have an X-therm. It's well made, the base material seems reasonably tough.

I am not sure why you are putting it under a tent floor?

There are no issues with combining the combining the mat with a foam mat then it will be warmer and more protected from sharp sticks on the ground.

The bottom is 70D which is the same as the base on the 'older' NeoAir All Season so that might give you an alternate route of research.

Same question as Gusto - why out it under the tent floor?

Hi gusto i mean on top of a tent floor, hoping that would be enough protection of course with good site preperation . I have only used a 8mm closed cell foam pad, but found it cool in winter . So iam sacrificing some weight for a bit of comfort and warmth . If the xtherm needed a pad/ tyvek i wouldent buy it rather a xlight and a pad seams lighter any comments would be helpful thanks Darrin

I also own a X-Therm and it's very good, I'm careful where I pitch the tent and my tent has a ground sheet as well as the floor. Great mat.

The biggest concern would be punctures (through your tent floor?!) but if you prep the site I would be incredibly surprised if you had any issues.
I have been using my Xtherm for a year now and it is going just as strong as when I bought it.

They may be light but are not totally flimsy.

I too am careful about choosing tent site and I use a ground sheet under my tent too. If I'm not using an inner tent I will still have a ground sheet.

At home I store mine loosely rolled up without a centre fold.

It's actually my wife's mat. It hasn't been used much, but it seems to be surprising durable.

I had an original neoair since release and recently bought an xtherm. Side by side, the xtherm looks to be at least as strong or stronger than the original on the base surface. I use it on a tent floor or groundsheet depending on circumstances. Comfy mat.

My x-therm has probably done 20 nights so far and I've found it to be a great little mat. If you watch where you put it you shouldn't get any punctures as the material is pretty tough.

I did get a hole in mine in the seam along the side, but not from a puncture, it just came apart. Used the patches provided with it and it's been good ever since.
