TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Telescopic Tarp and Tent poles

Sat 03 Aug, 2013 2:26 pm

I am looking for lightweight telescopic tent poles in 1.5m and 2m sizes. Aluminium will do.
3 or 4 sections so they can be packed. Something like 14mm,12mm or 10mm sections
Application is 1 or 2p pyramid tents and small camp tarps.
I know Rays Outdoors have 3m poles but these are too big for what I need. Anyone know where these can be sourced?
Its a wonder a trekking pole manufacture doesn't have these since they are only a little bit larger.

Try the luxe poles - about 2/3rds way day on this page

I bought a pair of 235 and 165cm poles from these guys after experiancing difficulties obtaining these locally. Very easy to deal with.

Prior to these I had a telescoping set of Aluminium poles that I cut down to fit in my rear sea kayak hatch (or in my spare paddle bag).

Thanks, but the Luxe poles are folding, not telescoping, so they are bulky. The top section only extends arbitrarily for height adjustment.

if the link does not work just go to backpackinglight.com and enter 62986 in the search window

How about an avalanche probe?

whoops, should have read your post properly the first time  . I agree the Luxe poles are bulky - a telescoping option (that packs small <~50cm - for my needs anyway) would be good.
