Hi,
Hunting for a food cache you stashed a month prior might be tricky at times, especially if you did a good job of hiding it. I saw this ad (no connection) and thought for $25 for a tile you put in with your food, plus reuse after the walk, gives bluetooth range to assist in locating and might avoid a fruitless search.

The idea is good but don't put it in a metal food drop container. 
You can also buy much cheaper "key finder" type units with less features but replaceable batteries - not "return after 1 year and we will sell you another a bit cheaper".

The advantage with the tile, I believe that you can share that code with your pickup crew if needed.

In the past I just mark them with the GPS and then zoom right in till you kick them
