TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

I have a good idea....

And Blacksheep, if you take it, you'll have to call it the Ashbybottle, or the Posertube, or something like that.

Someone needs to design a drink bladder than can double as a hot water bottle! :-)

What do you put in your hot water bottle if it's not water?

LOL- hmmmm- that raises some interesting, if unhygenic, ways to keep your feet warm at night.

Unhygenic.....bahhh. Best cure for tinea/foot odour is to pee on your feet, not to mention any serious abrasion.
You will find it will heal quicker, and with less scarring....honest injun' :D
Helps warm you up too.

Yes, but it has to be virgin pee.

I know about the pee cure for athletes foot. As for the rest of it, I'm never hiking with you two. Virgin Pee? I mean, REALLY! LOL

Sounds like a reasonable idea. I use my aluminum bottle for just this purpose. I boil water and fill up the aluminum bottle and then toss it in my sleeping bag. When the bottle cools and is less effective, I throw it outside and in the morning have clean cold water for the days walk. :D

I can see how a bladder would work too! It would want to be durable though. Its going to get some rough treatment.

I've often used a nalgene filled with hot water to use as a hottie.

do you reckon it weakens the Nalgene Dee?

Hot water bottle?
C'mon. You guys are soft!

I regularly use a Naglene with hot (not boiling) water added, to mix with milk powder for the breakfast on overnight walks. Haven't noticed any breakdown.

No, haven't noticed any damage.. they are amazing good drink bottles!! I misplaced my old faithful, nicely scratched from dangling off my pack over boulder fields and covered in greens sticker :(

I have had a Flexiflask for about 6 years now, and have used and abused it to the point where its time for a replacement, but have happily poured boiling water into it, and microwaved it to dry it out after trips. I used it on a few occasions to fill with boiled dodgy water at night and then use that for breakfast etc the next day, until better water was reached. Never thought of using it to warm up my sleeping bag  . . . It got dropped on a rock once and I patched it with a patch of sticky tape  , and continued to work fine. On my last trip It started leaking, and I found that the plastic laminate was delaminating so the puncture was leaking between the laminated layers. Recently enquired about getting a new one and discovered they are no longer made, so am interested in reviews & recommendations from you lot on what you use and how it performs.
