TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Too cheap and too many choices

How much gear do we really need?
I am going thought a rather drastic rationaisation of my stash at the moment.
I was [ and I suppose I am still ] preparing for a trip to North America.
I looked through all my cold weather gear and I think I could assemble about 5 complete and separate outfits.
I got a bit carried away with surplus gear in the USA but also I had a Patagonia credit to spend buy also there is stuff there that isn't quite right for me that I have hung onto.
Some things I have grown out of, when I was younger and had a decent pay packet I bought really good quality gear and it has lasted but it it no longet fits it isn't doing what it was first purchsed to do
Hence my for sale adds here.
I'll call it the Uniqlo syndrome, some stuff I bought simply because it was there, looked good and I could afford it.Now I have run out of storage space

Interesting point of view.

I tend to go the other way - agonise over each purchase, look at too many reviews then buy quality items and use them until they're worn out.

I also know that if I took up any more room in the garage I'd be single again!

That's part of the problem, the old good stuff isn't worn out, just that the new stuff is a little lighter and in prettier colours. Grown out of too

I know the feeling Ted. It is the same sort of thing with my with fly fishing gear. Started counting my fly rods recently-stopped when I got to 50 and decided not to try and count fly reels

Kids wear out stuff quickly while adults progressively wear less and less. The reason to replace these days is solidly discretionary.
