TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Satpaq antenna thoughts?

Does anyone have one of these? I know there are some folk from the states here. The idea looks pretty good not sure in practice how reliable it would be...
Certainly cheaper than a satphone...
https://satpaq.com/satpaq/
Currently US coverage but supposedly will become avail elsewhere

I don't think you can make calls with the satpaq?? Seems only msgs?

Imo your better off with a inreach mini

Inreach a bit lighter at 99 grams. Satpaq is 119 grams.

Satpaq only connects to 2 satellites. Geo stationary ones but still only two. If you need to send a message and a mountain stands between you and line of site to the satellite your out of luck.

Biggest problem as you mentioned is it can only be used in the US as that's where their satellites are positioned.

Also inreach has 1 metre water immersion rating. Satpaq is splashproof only.

On the positive: No subscription required with satpaq and is cheaper than inreach
