TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Tyvek as a tarp?

Sat 23 Sep, 2023 10:26 am

Just been watching a few YouTube heavy rain camping videos (invariably rains when I head out...) and was thinking a lightweight taro to use as shelter if required next time my tent (that doesn't cost a bomb)- would tyvek suit this purpose?
Cheers

There are many types of Tyvek but generaly people either have the Home Wrap type (code starting with 10) or the soft/clothing type in mind (14 and 16) .
The former is a bit too stiff and noisy if not crushed/washed but once it is ,it loses some of the waterproofness. The latter works well as a breathable shade shelter but it is only good for light rain .
