TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Hi guys,
Just wondering if this tents fly can be used stand alone?
Thanks.

G'day,

Although I can't speak from exact experience with the Starlight - I do have the Oztrail Backpacker (2-man). The fly is attached via velcro to the inner, and the single pole passes through a sleeve on the inner - similar to that of the Starlight.

As the Starlight has only one velcro connection (looking at the photos) - you could probably get away with just pitching the fly, and using the tension in the guys and pegs. However, you will need something to keep the tension between the two ends of the pole, otherwise it won't stay arched by itself and it won't work at all.

Consider grabbing a length of static cord, attaching a keychain-style loop to each end (for the ground anchors), and then threading a small eyebolt onto each keychain-loop to act as the connection to the pole. You'll be mimicing the normal ground connection of the pole to the inner, just without the inner...

Make sense, or clear as mud?

Thanks Capt, I rang up about it and decided to go with the vortex 2.
Cheers.
