TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

My new quilt arrived today!!!

Wed 09 Feb, 2011 4:28 pm

so i was sitting at home, thinking that my new quilt should be arriving any day now, i lgged on to the USPS site to check its status and it told me it was out of customs, i logged on to the Aus Post site, and it tells me it was received by the driver this morning! excelent, im getting it today! not more than 1 min after i put my phone down (i checked its status on that) and i heard a knock on the door!

well, im well impressed! it came in a standard post bag, weighs next to nothing and i dont have a compression sack small enough to compress it all the way! im looking forward to giving it a try out in the real world!

this is the one i got, in orange and with and extra 2oz of overfill. the straps are fully removable on mine also, as i feel i will only use them when it gets really cold. all in all, im a happy man :D i think this along has dropped my pack weight by about 2kg and freed up a heap of space!

Nice one Macca, some of these small players are good value eh! I like some of those light smock style hooded jackets. Only the best of several unknown brands eh? :)

i have a small prolight (3/4). i also use a small piece of CCF as a seat and to put under my feet on cold nights. i feel that the prolight will fit inside the straps of the quilt nicely, and the CCF will still float around on the tent floor like it does now.

i may use my full length pacfic outdoor self inflator on the odd occasion... but i actually find my prolight more comfortable more often than not...

i have used it on my bed the past couple of nights... (yes, i know, but i was excited!)
without the straps attached at all, it does not move out of place at all, and it is warm enough that i have to keep removing it from myself... its not exactly cold in my bedroom in feb however...

in the past 2 years, my sleeping bad has never been done up, except the foot of it, essentially being used in the same way as this new quilt. have had no draught problems with that either.

We have had a Nanutuk double quilt for about three years. 1Kg for two people, rated down to -5deg, fantastic! Would never go back to a sleeping bag! Used it on the overland track in winter and lots of other trips.
Would highly recommend using it with an Exped down mat, 50mm thick and filled with down. We use two of the short ones strapped together. They are only slightly heavier than the thermarest prolite 3 and a whole lot more comfortable and warmer. The latest version of the exped mat has the pump built in to the mat. You can't blow them up by mouth as the moisture will make the down in the mat wet.
