TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

New LW tripod

Thu 09 Jun, 2011 10:01 am

Spotted this one in Melbourne town (at Camera Action..) yesterday
Just over 300g, stands to 112cm and can hold up to 1.3 kg , enough for a std DSLR or video camera.
Those legs are made from tent pole sections...

Not sure if it was $79 or $99, I had a look at several other tripods...

Thanks champ! They're $45 on ebay.... costs just over an hour's parking in sydney near Circular Quay.
Picked one up and theres plenty left.

I had been searching for a 275g Velbon tripod to no success for a while now but I think this one fits the bill for me.

Mmmmm, that might fit the bill for long walks. Pity they're so much cheaper on evilbay . . .
Thanks, Franco.

Found a supplier for the lighter Velbon tripod, which is 275g and costs roughly the same as the zipshot.
Based on the photos, the lighter velbon appears to be of a sturder construction due to its traditional design with centre leg clamps, but the quick setup nature of the zipshot is surely appealing! hope it performs as stated, otherwise its going to end up in my "tripod box" along with a few others already lying there.

ninjapuppet
I have a heavier version of that Velbon.
The problem with those legs is that after a while they tend to jam or not lock any longer.
A bit like with the twist lock poles but with 9 locking points ...
mind you for all I know this one could be the exception.

This vanguard nivelo looks good:

More info here:

vanguard nivelo 204bk

Load Capacity 4.4 lbs (0.60 kg)
Maximum Height 39.375" (1 m)
Maximum Height w/o Column Extended 30.75" (71.1 cm)
Minimum Height 13.75" (34.92 cm)
Folded Length 11.75" (30 cm)
Weight 1.32 lbs (0.6 kg)

I've just ordered it via eBay so that I can have something light but stable for my trip to Nepal. For extra stability I guess I can just use the legs unextended.

Nice..
The max load is 2 kg , 600g is the weight of the tripod.

to add some stability you can always put some weight around the center column , something like a bottle of water will do, as long as your total weight (camera and ballast) is still around or under 2 kg.

I visited the Vanguard factory some years ago. They also make binos and gadget bags.

I'm researching tripods at the moment. Kogan has a 500g tripod for $29. Worth considering.
