TIP: The online
Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

I was looking at buying a new stove for 4 season use.
Was going to buy a Fire Maple FMS-100T , but just saw this Kovea stove KB-1006( 1/2 the weight and price)
I know the Fire maple has good reviews, but has anyone used or got any comments on the Kovea

Good find! Some major design changes there. I like the folding legs, Ive been thinking for ages that they should make the legs more compact. If i've thought that Ive wondered why they didn't..
Personally, if buying new stoves (from OS especially), i'd give the BPL crowd a while to trial them (if you can wait)

It was mentioned in one of the forums but from memory nobody had tried that as yet.
Kovea is usually pretty safe but after assuming that the other 150 something grams stove worked with an inverted canister I am now waiting for someone to test this one.
Mind you, it does not really matter down to a few degrees below zero.
I think that Tony Beasley should buy one just to see if it works.

Thanks for posting about this stove marangaroo86, it looks good and I am sure as it is from Kovea it will work a lot better than the Fire Maple stove of similar weight.

Hi Franco ,
I would buy one but I have my money tied up in a trip to NZ in November, plus my wife is starting to give me a hard time about buying more stoves.

Hm, I don't see where the 1/2 the weight is coming from.
Kovea is 156g (stove only)
Fire Maple is 199g (I assume it's also stove only)
Am I missing something?

Sorry Stibb not 1/2 the wieght.
I used artistic license.
It looks to be an interesting stove.
Thanks

lol, that is a bit too artistic for me
But...the Kovea looks at least twice as flimsy to me...
How much does the fuel hoses weigh? Do they vary much (in weight and quality)?

I was going to suggest for someone to buy it and send it to you, but they are all too tight here.
(I am too poor)

When you get it , try inverting the canister , after 30 sec or so of turning it on, and see what happens.
You may get a surge of power (flame flare) so keep the output low.

For the Record the FMS-100T weighs 190g including hose
I don't own a Kovea KB-1006 it looks like a nice stove however like most of the Kovea models including the one I own the burner head looks like it is a bit too centralised to allow nice simmering unlike the wide Primus style head on the FMS-!00T
I am biased but cannot see how anyone can say that Kovea is Superior to Fire Maple when they both manufacture stoves for many of the Major brands in Europe and USA .
Finally as a " stove tragic " I am not attracted, the KB-1006 looks a tad fragile and I feel they needed the separate igniter as a selling point ,good price but you gets what you pays for EH!!
corvus
p.s. if you want a cheap and cheerful remote stove for occasional use the BL-100 -B5 is good buying.

You may be right Corvus. I am getting it for solo walks and the price and weight make it attactive to me to try it. $53.00 156gStove only?

I bought one of these new Kovea stoves, and it certainly does have a concentrated flame above the burner - probably capable of seriously burning the main course if you're not careful. The first time I fired it up it gave me a bit of a fright - this is a real rocket motor of a stove. Great flame control too, but the pot holder extension look a bit flimsy. I didn't buy this one for walking, I bought it for the narrow flame to sit my mini espresso machine on - and it works a treat.

Stove arrived
Looks well made
Nicely packaged
Comes in a very nice plastic case. I will not be using this but it looks good and does its job nicely .
Gave it a quick run, wow sure does roar when you turn the canister up ,( but very controllable)
I will do a review in the next week with photos and weights, may even time some water

Starting?

It's my wife's standing order. I
am a bit over the top with all my classic old collectibles.
The Kovea stove looks like a nice one, and the price and weight are right. The flame is a bit concentrated though, isn't it?
Very interesting that Kovea is offering a stand alone piezoelectric ignition. MSR has exactly the same thing except that there's has red plastic. I'll bet I know what factory it was produced in! The Kovea Jetboil look alike is interesting too. Almost a blatant knock off.
Kovea products are alas not available in the US (where I live), although they can sometimes be had via eBay. Kovea's quality seems to be quite high from the items that I have been able to get. My brother is working in Korea right now, and he'll be coming home for Christmas. I wonder if I should ask him for a few things.
