TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

GEAR LIST TAS 9 nights Western Lakes fish/walk

Looks like a well thought out list Andrew. Do you by any chance have the model name or pics of your water carriers and frypan?

Hi ninjapuppet,

Water carriers have been great and are Platapus brand but have had them for 15 years and haven't seen in a shop since I bought them. The frypan is just a lid off a bushwalking pot.

Hi all,

Below are a few notes and photos I prepared for the Sports Fish Tasmania forum in case you are interested:

Quick report as at Bridport with the family - hopefully fishing tomorrow in the boat if not too windy.

Made it back OK and was just fantastic. One night of rain with a bit of drizzle the next day but other than that weather was magic. Hooked 11 fish and landed 8 and kept 5 and missed quite a few as well. Didn't get to all the lakes had intended to but for sure it is a must do area as often as possible and already planning the next trip. Didn't fish as solidly as expected either as was just great being up there. Decided it was best to set up camp for 2 nights as often as possible so get to know the area over 3 days and less packing/setting up.

Didn't see anyone for first 7 days except a couple of guys who were walking out and then once in the Walls there were other bushwalkers to chat with. The length of time was great and knew I would get some good days.

Below is a link to a few photos. Will re-assess gear list and amend on the forum. Would have got away without waders even though wore them a lot and would skip the spinning rod next time too.

Hi all,

Have edited the gear list ABOVE to reflect what I would take next time. Did have a kids zinc stick in my pocket that we bought on the way which was good but back of hands were still a problem and had to be very careful not to wipe zinc off as always in sun with fly rod or on walking poles. Long sleeves a must and wide hat.

The length of time seemed perfect as was ready to come home but felt I had a good look at the area and looking forward to returning. Planning the trip was also fun and being able to show my family all the photos etc. and share it with you guys has been great. I appreciate how lucky we are to live in Tassie and I just loved being out there and having the time to watch ants gathering or black swans loving/feeding or fish rising etc.

All in all it was a fantastic trip.

Cheers,

Andrew

Andrew that link appears to be broken

but back of hands were still a problem and had to be very careful not to wipe zinc off as always in sun with fly rod or on walking poles

I use hand covers that I get from Mountain Designs in Devonport. They are fingerless gloves made of very fine and yet strong material. They sell them to fishermen, bike riders etc.
They are excellent and defenitely don't need any hand cream.
There are palmless ones but i tried them and found them dangerous for working as one could easily get caught up in something.

regards
