TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Ferrino Lightent 1 Review

by Greenie » Sat 07 Jan, 2012 9:03 pm

I have been given the Ferrino Lightent 1, a one man tent. I was given it for free of charge by Rico of Adventure Friends (http://www.adventurefriends.com.au) for the purpose of test and a review for bushwalk.com forum members, I am under no obligation nor do I have any affiliation to or with this Company or Rico. viewtopic.php?f=27&t=8236

It appears Adventure Friends only sell Ferrino tents. Are they trying to lift the profile of that brand through online reviews??

And most importantly, where's mine!?

Re: Ferrino tents?

Sun 08 Jan, 2012 6:54 pm

Look I was given one to test, and im not shy to call a spade a spade.... i've bought cheap tents before, NEVER with a good result. These tents are cheap, and I (after a whopping 4 nights in it) rate these tents the best on the market as far as bang for buck goes!!

I stated - "It appears Adventure Friends only sell Ferrino tents. Are they trying to lift the profile of that brand through online reviews??"

May I ask why do you think they have given 2 members of this forum tents to review?? They are in the business if selling tents. Trying to lift the profile name of a brand not that well know here would be an obvious thing to do.

Read the thread, it explains why.......

Re: Ferrino tents?

Mon 09 Jan, 2012 8:10 am

As ILUVSWTAS said, it is explained quite clearly in the review topics themselves, and even more clearly in the topic that they link to, which is written by the distributor, and is where he makes the offers to give the tents away for the sake of review. See: viewtopic.php?f=27&t=8236

You should probably post further questions in that topic, if you have any.

Thanks son of a beach. Will check the link.

Does anyone else think all these Ferrino threads are cluttering things up/looking messy. It is also really fragmented, lots of thoughts and discussion on the same topic in numerous threads. Maybe an epic merging session is appropriate?

 not nearly as messy as the various very similar threads designed to analyse bushwalking clubs. I think Nik is onto the Ferrino thing, good to see another brand getting some attention IMHO :)

Agree with sbs. There are different topics about different model ferrinos. Do you suggest a single topic per brand?
On the first page of the equipment topics there are 4 threads of the MSR Microrocket which are just links to an external blog...

Not at all. Normally I would be fine with separate threads for different reviews of the same product, but this isn't a normal situation. The agreement with Rico is good and well but I don't think it should be allowed to dominate this section of the forums.

I am also not OK with that, but it is certainly a different situation.

Why not?

Re: Ferrino tents?

Robert H,
I really do not believe this topic is dominating it is just a result of the free of charge supplied Ferrino Tents gradually being tested in the Field and reviewed as we agreed to do .
How else do you suggest we do reviews of supplied equipment ? those of us who did the reviews are not experts just experienced enthusiasts happy to do so for an importer who was willing to take a chance to receive good or bad results.

Having said that I will be happy contribute to any other topic you wish to introduce provided it is within my area of knowledge as I am sure other members will be :) .

Hi guys, I would like to make my intentions clear. My aim is not to dominate this section of the forum :D , however i understand that having four topics with Ferrino in the subject may look strange, and could even be worrying to some readers

I sent four tents to four different members of this forum. The first 2 tents were shipped the 30th of November, and the other 2 tents on the 15th of December. I was hoping that the two week gap was enough to avoid any excessive overloading.
Of course the members who decided to write the reviews are not professional gear reviewers, and I cannot and I don't want to give them dead lines... they are free to write the reviews whenever they like. It just happened that their work was ready almost at the same time (apart from Corvus, he was really fast!!!). Also we had nice feedback coming from PDDY, which is not part of the gear tester initiative. He knew the brand, and he did extensive researches on the different models. (Thanks for your post mate, you pointed out some very interesting detail which I didn't know either!!!).

So, hopefully you can now see that there is nothing sinister going on, it is just how things worked out this time! I would like to continue with this initiative, as I think it is the correct way to go... giving back to the bushwalking community, and receiving real feedbacks from the real users of the gear we sell. I am learning what the Aus bushwalking community wants and tailoring my business to their needs

Oh no I realise there is nothing sinister going on. I think it was a great idea Rico and I hope there is more of it to come. Looking at the forums now (not on my phone) I can see it isn't as bad as I originally though. So best of luck to you and a round of applause to reviewers. Forgive my confusion.

I am still a bit suss on the MicroRocket threads though ;) (I know there is no bad intentions, I just don't think it warrants four separate threads)
But that is another issue.

I was looking at a One Planet Goondie but I'm now considering a Ferrino Nemesi...

I have no issue with it what so ever provided the reviews are honest in their praise and criticism. Which thus far the reviewers would seem to have given their honest opinion.

For me, I haven't been inspired to buy a tent personally, but I have been on the website and read about the Vargo wood fire stoves. I'm tempted by them for use by my clients instead of Trangias.

Hi Rico

Good to see that you are taking a punt with the "great unwashed". No problems with your approach as long as I have confidence that the people writing tho reviews are genuine posters, not stooges. Knowing one personally and the others by reputation they are not stooges, they are not funny enough for that tag

As for the reviews, well it is up to reviewers to shine or fail. Some might be hoping that a favourable review might bring them more stuff while other will write as they see it. I am sure that most on the forum are aware enough to make the decision which way the reviewers went. I have no reason to believe that you have "instructed" or "encouraged" them what to write so any bias (if any at all) is the reviewer's, which is how any review on this site goes.

I wish you the best with your range of products. Also smart timing choosing summer for tents with largely mesh interiors. I look forward the reviewers' winter experiences

Cheers

PS might write a review of Dodo as a wireless internet service but me thinks that the swear filter will go into melt down

Edit to correct a Freudian slip
