TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

30g candle light holder

Finally I made my LW candle light.
I copied and modified an idea from Scott Ashdown :

my version is not multi use but at 1 oz is not a bad stand alone solution.
made from scrap material, it is just a cut down Gatorade 600ml bottle, a drinking yougourt bottle , a couple of grommets and some hanging wire.
The opaque collar is to keep the candle in the center of the yogourt bottle and is glued at the base with some silicone.
I found that when the candle is well into the burn , it should be about 8" (20cm) from the fabric , too hot otherwise.
It is water cooled. The water is poared in between the two containers.
I have had a previous version burning for many hours without any problem but of course test your at lenghth before trusting it in the wild.
The yougurt container was meant to diffuse the flame but it is diffusing more than I want it.
The previous version with clear container sanded down a bit worked better.
However it is not meant to be a reading light, just to burn some condensation and add a little bit of warmth.

I will be posting a video on You Tube, just for my own amusement

That is an awesome idea Franco, I often take tea light candles with me when I go hiking, it feels or a more natural light than a head torch.

I will now have to try and make one myself.

Looks a lot lighter than the UCO candle holders as well they are about 4 oz.

Have you tried anything else other than the drinking yogurt bottle as a diffuser ?

For another shorter version I used a clear bottle and sanded that down lightly. That works too.

This reminds me of a diffusion disk I made for an head light.
A mate of mine ordered a 2 layer diffusion panel , they were originally meant for some optical equipment like a projector or something like that.
I cut a piece of plastic from a milk container and sanded that down.
My "free" version worked better than the purpose made (and expensive) one...
