TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Cut Off Pants, where and what to buy.

I know these are for sale in Department stores in Australia, but maybe it's that time of year where they are not for sale, I looked and saw none. Probably these wont be what I want, being light, but I have seen long ones that seem to be light material, I guess I could make my own, but they I would need to know how to sow zippers, or at least sow some velcro onto it, that seems easier :)

Just wondering if you have seen any for sale in any store, other than Online, which I will probably use to buy them anyway, can someone recommend some good pants, breathable, light, tough would be nice or is that combination not possible ;)

My gear is coming together, All I need is my cloths and I am pretty much done, well my Light weight gear kit.

I highly recommend The North Face Paramount peak pants. They are much more durable than many. I've got 3 pairs.

They are expensive, but once you know your size you can just buy them online.

I think you will have trouble finding light and tough in one combination.

Pretty much all of the hiking suppliers stock them - Kathmandu certainly, I'm sure I've seen them at MacPac, North Face as noted above. Have a look through your local outdoorsy type shops rather than Target and KMart and you will find them. Lightweight, midweight,.... depends on the season but they are definitely there.

BCF also.

Personally, I have never been very interested in them. Most of my outdoor activity centres around streams (fishing). Always pushing through tangles, hopping fences etc. Zipoffs always seem too light, not tough enough for this. Also if it's hot enough to zip off, it's hot enough to expect encounters with snakes and in this sort of terrain, there are loads so I want heavy weight cloth and canvas gaiters regardless. An occasional wade to keep cool.

Regards,
Ken

I use Macpac zip offs, they are light but have so far stood up to scrub bashing. Don't remember what I paid but wasn't that much when on sale.
