TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Field repairs

Over 25yrs or so of outdoor activities, I've rarely had to effect any repairs, and what has needed to be repaired has been easily done in the field.

I bushwalk, fly-fish, packraft, ski tour, and sea kayak.

To date , All bushwking repairs have been easily with a needle a thread.

Fly fishing repairs have extended me to using braided nylon and super glue when my fly line breaks, and aqua seal for wader repairs.

Packrafting hasn't really caused me anymore issue to date, other than a lost valve cap, which was resolved with a plastic bottle we had.

Ski touring , I've had one catastrophic binding failure which required. Walk back to home. would have been fixed by carrying epoxy glue , and a screw driver.

Sea-kaykng.........not had my Yeats, but wouldob carry some epoxy and fiberglass ape if on. Longer trip.

At the end of the day, repair kits can be kept quite simple.

And if you're not handy with a needle and thread, some sail repair tape can be a useful item to carry.
This makes me the first man to climb Mount Everest backwards, without oxygen...or even a jumper.

Same here.

Fishing, as fas as I've experienced, is "repairs"! Re-tying lines, leaders, rigs ... :x

I carry some dental floss - almost impossible to break, can only be cut. And a couple of needles (darning and smaller) taped to the inside lid of my first aid kit, with electrical tape - which itself is very useful.

Look up "Remote Repairs" in Melbourne. Or do a search here, they have joined the forum. They have this special stuff, I think it's heat pressed from both sides. Not chunky, they really do a good job. You can post stuff to them.

As for duct tape, try asking anyone in a hut on the Overland track, it's amazing how many boots you see taped together.

And for simple repairs, Elastoplast from the 1st aid kit, & a good length of builders twine that is your clothes line / emergency boot lace / guy line / whatever you need it to be to get you through.

Just in case, there is always either half a roll of gaffer tape or sports tape in my pack somewhere although I have used thumb screws, ring clamps, alligator clips and plumbing tape for odd repairs. I also carry an old air bed puncture repair kit which has come in handy for patching stuff like thermarest, tent, jacket. My little pointy watch tool has been handy for sunglasses screws and cleaning out fuel injectors.
