TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Not a lot in it Strider,
1- 50cm long x 43 circumference, 2- 52 cm long 48 circumference so just like the minimum weight difference the cubic capacity is minimal :)

Well there you go! Still worth considering for those tight on space though

Agree with Strider packed size could be smaller. I have tried packing poles vertical and tent folded rather than rolled. Helps a bit when packing in rain.

I always do this with the Olympus. Poles seperate, inner and fly together if dry or seperate them into two stuff sacks if fly is wet. Tent fits easily into the bottom compartment of old Cascade with sleeping bag and wet weather gear!

Yeah it is a tricky one to pack. Even folded it still takes up a similar amount of space due to the carbon fibre struts.

I know this is all about weight, but.... I have used a macpac minaret for years in some awful conditions it weighs 2.1 kg according to Mr. Google. If I was to use a tarp i would need a bivy bag, warmer bag, dig trenches around my tarp if I was in a crappy site with rain imminent (so I'd need a tool for this), I would need to string lines to undergrowth, I would need a mossy net in warmer weather.... etc etc.

I've used a tarp plenty of times - (including snow camping), and it has it's place, but for the sake of 1kg I will take a real tent into the mountains every time. takes 5 minutes to set-up in crappy weather and once you're in you're dry and warm.

I shot a video clip on how to pack the Double Rainbow and the Moment.
The Scarp is done the same way as the Moment except that you have 4 corners instead of two , so you put each end together first and then proceed as with the Moment.
The Moment packing up starts at 4:30 but maybe watching how I do the DR can be useful to some.
Here it is :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxg4miB ... vw&index=5
Essentially the idea is to have the fabric as flat and spread out as possible, then fold in to the strut/pole size, then roll to the open end, usually the strut end...

Yes, the big problem - the only problem in fact, for me - with the Scarp is the packing, due to the length of those carbon fibre struts.
I like to put my tent at the top of the pack, horizontally, so I can get it out quickly when it's time to make camp. The only things that might go over it are the wet-weather gear, although that usually slides in around the tents. The poles are in separately.
But you can't do that in the Load Limo with the Scarp. It has to be stuffed in vertically. And that makes it pretty well impossible to pack the tent last. And if it's raining, you don't want to have all your other gear sitting around outside until the tent's packed away. So far on wet mornings, it's been a matter of packing things loosely, rolling up the tent, stuffing it in the pack, and then re-arranging everything that's in there so that it all fits - which still isn't ideal for really wet conditions.

Wonderful tent otherwise.

Totally agree. I'm actually considering carrying mine on the outside of my pack in future (definitely not ideal).

I carry the Scarp 1 stored vertically in the front pocket of the Circuit or strapped there with the Aarn Effortless Rhythm
( I have the Contrail or the Notch across the top of the pack)
Those built in struts are considered a pain by some but are the feature that makes the Scarp stronger than similarly designed shelters.
Mind you I have not used the Scarp that many times because it is too heavy for me..

Yep, strapping it on works too - but not if you're scrub-bashing.

Considering getting a tougher stuffsack made for mine. It just takes up too much room inside the pack otherwise.

I managed a 14 day walk with the Scarp1 stored upright in a 75l pack. Easy! If you NEED lighter, go for it.

The rest of your gear must be a lot smaller than mine!

Plan a 14 day off track trip and you'll learn to go minimalist :-) never compromise on your shelter though!

It fits in the pack, no trouble. It's just the matter of having to change the packing routine. Makes it hard to keep everything else reasonably dry when you're packing on a wet morning.

You could use a waterproof pack liner, seal it up and then pack the tent between that and the the inside of the pack that is what I have done in the past :)

+1 Corvus.

Waterproof bag everything, and then chuck wet tent on top.

Recently been playing with Z packs hexamid twin. Huge and light for one, great for adult plus kid, two comfy for me for 2 adults. Easy to pack up to keep floor dry.

That's what I do, but it's the fact that the tent doesn't go in horizontally that is the issue for me. I've already said that at least once.
The only other way to go is to strap it on outside, either under the lid or on the front. Neither option is ideal when scrub-bashing.

Pack it on the outside of your pack liner?

*EDIT*

Should have read the comment above this properly!

Hey nnw I agree it's the drawback of the Scarp. I've managed to do it by leaving just enough vertical space when it's wet. You can get it a bit smaller by sliding the poles in separately you just have to figure out how small(lengthways) you can make the tent and work backwards :? I've figured out I just need the length of my forearm and hand in a fist then pack the tent last with maybe my stove and a few other bits that don't mind getting wet. Not perfect but ok.

Yeah, just takes more practice. Not that I want any more wet weather; maybe I'll just have to pretend.
