Hi all,
I'm a new member that's visited this forum often in the past and picked up a few handy tips, but have never gotten around to signing up until now. First up, apologies for boring you with more queries about tents, but I'm in the market for a new 2-man and, admittedly without having seen one in the flesh, am pretty impressed with the Hilleberg Allak. Member Andrew wrote back in April that he'd recently taken delivery of a new Allak but at that stage hadn't put it to any sort of practical test, preferring his Soulo for one up trips. I think I'm right in saying that he's not as yet posted a follow up, so if Andrew or any one else is able to provide some feedback I'd appreciate it before forking over the "rather steep and getting steeper" asking price.
For background I'm a 57 year old, 1.8m tall, reasonably fit, fairly experienced ex-footballing Tassie bushwalker and have walked many of Tassie's iconic (and minor) tracks including Frenchman's, Mt Anne circuit, Western Arthurs traverse, pretty much all of the Cradle tracks, Walls, Never Never, Labyrinth, Central Plateau, Lake Rhona, Cape Huay/Pillar circuit, etc. and oh... about 50-ish training 'sprints' up the King's Rd Mt Roland track. Except for the usually solo Roland forays I always walk with a few good mates and to save weight we share tents (and scotch) - as I said, good mates! I've determined that I'm looking for a 4-season, well ventilated, dual vestibule, sturdily and cleverly fabricated, quick to pitch and pull-down (often in the rain), roomy as practicable tent that stays dry inside and weighs as little as possible without unduly compromising the foregoing. Not a big ask I wouldn't have thought! I'm suspicious that the truly light weight shelters would not be adequate in the sort of places and weather that we frequent but am happy to be convinced otherwise. Any comment would be most appreciated.
Cheers
Glenn
