TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

MACPAC Minaret : Pole length ?

Sun 15 Sep, 2013 7:27 am

I've scored a nice Macpac Minaret tent but it has no poles so I'll need to source a set or make some up. Can anyone tell me the total pole length of each of the 2 poles for a Minaret as I have some 9.5mm poles here from another tent which could be suitable for the Minaret. Alternatively : if anyone has a set of Minaret poles in GC that they want to sell then shoot me a PM. Cheers

Hi sambar, good score on your Minaret, they’re nice versatile tent :D
Do you know how old yours is? I have two Minarets here and the pole lengths are different, quite a bit different. When the weather here improves, I’ll set them both up side by side to compare the differences in both design and specs.

Firstly, the newer one is a UV30 - Multi-Pitch model, with the lighter fabric (not Ultra-Sil) and has the newer Macpac logo. The poles for this one are both 2.63m and both are curved. They are also the 9mm Easton poles.
The older one has the heavier fabric, higher tub floor and the older Macpac logo. The poles appear to be different lengths, one is 2.34m and the other being 2.70m. Again, both are curved. With 8mm poles.

Like I said, I can’t confirm the exact differences until they’re set up together and my lounge room just isn’t big enough!!
Are your spare pole sections curved? It will make a stronger pole overall if they’re curved and also lessen the strain on the segment ends if they’re pre-curved.
I hope this has helped you some
Cheers :)

Lady McGuyver....thanks for the info on your Macpac Minaret poles & I appreciate the effort that you've gone to there. This Minaret appears to have a flysheet with both pole sleeves the same length I think...so maybe the 2.63 length. Interesting that the one in your pic has various lengths too. I've got some poles from my old Wild Country Quasar....9.5mm Easton....and the shorter curved ones are about 2.8m each but in 6 longer sections so they might do the job with a bit of shortening of each end section. These would have probably had to do a similar bend curve with the Quasar so they might be adaptable to the Minaret.

I like the Macpac gear and had an early Minaret years ago but a couple of pesky Keas took a liking to it while I was in Fiordland in NZ and while they didn't totally turn it into confetti I had to scrap it when I got back as the cost of repairing it was more than a new one ! But I've always been keen of getting another one at some stage so I snapped this one up despite the lack of poles. Thanks once again for your reply. Cheers

i have a 20+ year old minaret that is now kaput. If the poles are the same with your new one I'm happy to send them to you. I'm keeping the pegs though....
