How to get fresh water out of thin air

TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

How to get fresh water out of thin air

Fog-harvesting system developed by MIT and Chilean researchers could provide potable water for the world’s driest regions.

I would so love an invention that was light and captured water from the air at a reasonable rate.

Unfortunately I think these require foggy / very humid conditions. Only a few places in the world where that combines with little surface water.

Well mars settlers will likely be using something similar (although a boat load more capacity and advanced)

Natures version is the cloud forest. Unlikely it would work on Mars as it requires saturated air (100% Relative humidity). More likely is a refrigeration type device which works by cooling air until it reaches 100% RH - the way air conditioners do.

Sorry mark mars would clearly be quite different (provably extract elements from air and combine into water) I meant similar as in "water out of the air" not necessarily same process. Hope that helps

There's an Aussie guy doing similar work and has been featured on Late Night Live and Australian Story.

Unfortunately, so far it looks like a bit of a non-starter. No working models have been built but plenty of 'demonstration prototypes'.

There is definitely some value in this work though. But I doubt the miracle value.

There are refrigeration devices at the design phase at least (see my last post) and they would work on Mars after you detonated some thermo-nukes at the poles and waited some time.
Assuming you were sure there was no life on the planet of course....

On THIS planet we definitely need more cloud forests and less Thermo-nukes.

Have always thought a water transpiration bag might be a nifty way to get some water if there are trees around and your spending alot of time in the same area.

Having a couple in the car would be good. They can always be used as a plastic bag if need be.
Men wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, bitter cold, long hours of complete darkness. Safe return doubtful.
