Outdoor Research Furio or Arc'Teryx alpha sl hybrid?

Hi guys,

I am looking for some quick advice regarding purchase of a new waterproof jacket. So far I am looking at either the OR Furio or the Arc'Teryx Alpha SL Hybrid. Does anyone have a recommendation of one jacket over the other?

I can purchase for similar price and they both seem to be what I'm looking for - fairly light weight with pro shell resistance in key abrasion areas for hiking. Perhaps people could also recommend another jacket they think out performs either of those mentioned for a similar price range?

Will mainly be using as a rain jacket whilst hiking in Victoria but also plan on doing some snow hiking in Aus/NZ as well.

both good brands. arcteryx made to the highest standard, OR still made to a high standard, i've got various items of theres, jackets and pants and lightweight rainshell, no problems with the design or uality.
OR doesnt have the reputation of arcteryx and doesnt charge a premium price. what are the prices lke? i'm guessing arceryx is more pricey depends if you want to spend the money.
I think you're getting a worthwhile jacket either way, up to you how you want to spend your money.

ive got an alpha jacket, and furio pants (which has same materials as the jacket).

The 2 materials are very different.
the fuirio is much tougher and burley, while the alpha's SL means SUPER LIGHT.

I have the even lighter version, the FL and have been very happy with that. only a tad heavier than ueli Stecks Quasar jacket but it is much more usable and hard wearing.
if you're bush bashing, go the Furio.

So if the SL means Super light. What does the F stand for the in the FL, assuming the L is light and it's lighter than the SL series.....

Thanks guys - pretty much confirms what I was thinking as well. Good to know that the furio is a heavier material than the alpha.

I am based in Melbourne and was able to try on the furio, does anyone know of a store nearby where they sell Arc'Teryx? I have only seen that jacket online but if it's close by would be worth checking out.

Arc'teryx stuff is almost unbelievably well made. Their stuff gives you the same sense of quality as a fine suit. As far as finding it in Australia the chances of finding any particular product is very slim but you may get lucky.

Also, Beta LT > Alpha SL Hybrid, but the former may be pricier.
