TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Yes designs are very similar however my Crux with a No 42 burner head was manufactured in Japan for Optimus and the steel pot supports are thicker than the Ti pot Supports on my FMS-116T (Gnat, Kathmandu Ti burner) are thinner ,so I suspect Fire Maple may have copied the Crux burner head and improved it

Interesting. Well, I'd like to get a Gnat even though I already have a Crux. Mark F was saying here on this forum that you can take the base off an MSR Superfly and attach it to a Gnat which allows for the use of either threaded or non-threaded (Camping Gaz type) canisters. That would be a nice travel stove.

Ah. That's not too bad. Maybe...

Although I have so many little gas stoves. My wife and I are in the process of moving (in about a month). I'll revisit the issue then, but thanks for that link.

Re: Gas canister disposal

On a trip last week, my pack was very full, so I wanted to make as much room as I could. When my first gas canister finally ran out with 3 days still to go, I thought I'd try piercing it and crushing it to make a tiny bit more room available in my very full pack (even after 10 days, I still couldn't fit all my gear back in the pack, and was carrying some stuff on the outside in another tough bag).

I found that my Gerber tool (like a Leatherman) had an old style can piercer on it, so when the gas ran out, I left it on (valve open) for a few more minutes, just to be on the safe side, then pierced the can several times, then left it for a few minutes more to be safe again. Then crushed it between two rocks. Worked very well! I even got all my stuff back in the pack on the very last day, after eating as much food as I could.

Anyhow, I just wanted to say THANKS to the people in this thread who gave me the idea! :-D

Thanks, GPSG. Very helpful. I have a growing collection of empties that I should be able to happily and effectively recycle now. :)
