Here in Australia my first memory of sleeping mats is the creamy soft ones from Bushgear in Melbourne (remember them).
I bought one in 1972 I think. But I got a yellow karrimat (Karrimor) in 1974 as a backpad for my Joe Brown climbing sack.
Stupidly I left my original Bushgear mat in The MUMC hut on Feathertop.
