TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

I bought some a while ago. Got 3 for $19.98 delivered.
They aren't as soft and light as silk shirts I've had, but I think a liner like that would be too delicate. To me they seem like a poly/silk blend.

I use one as a cover for my NeoAir AllSeasons Large. Its a perfect fit, nice to sleep on, and a little added protection.

I think they are more comfortable in a bag than those thermo liners as well.

You get your money's worth.

Has anyone tried a ripstop nylon liner?
I'm hesitant at getting another silk one as mine tore at the seams. I fixed it but it just tore again. :/

I twist around a lot and and hoping the nylon is more slippery.

Have tried and loved it. The material is great and it is cheap.

After a pure silk if I can. This one looks promising, but again a confusing description.

Thats the same maker as the Treksilk.

I just spotted this in their description….
This model is made of an art silk fabric using high quality synthetic fibers so it has silk satiny for softness as well as synthetic fibers for durability. 0 % POLYESTER = Much more comfortable sleep than FAUX SILK SATIN FABRICS (weight doesn't tell all, we are manufacturers and apply export standards and use the highest quality material).

We have tested several fabrics and this one is the best for backpackers: compact, light, strong, easy wash, fast drying

The best one for outdoor activities but slightly less soft than a 100 % pure silk liner which needs more care.

No it's not silk - it's as Picaro has cut and pasted from the website description.
I'm not sure what non polyester synthetic it actually is, as it's not named except for this T(R)eksilk title
We can learn a lot from crayons. They come in different shapes and colours, but they all have to live in the same box

Onestepmore wrote:PS I doubt the silk actually adds any warmth - just stops body oils and dirt fron reducing the life of your super expensive sleeping bag. I always wear separate clothes to sleep(thermals or merino top and leggings etc) and dedicated clean socks. Down top and pants if cold. I know some UL diehards sleep in all their clothes for warmth, wet weather gear included, and don't use a liner....each to their own. I like a clean SB :)

Agree with all of this, although I don't wear as much as that in the bag unless things turn out colder than expected. Any extra clothes at night are my safety margin. Love the clean socks (I get cold feet) and boxers at night - luxury and worth the weight for me. 180g total - less with the possum merino socks.

A benefit of a liner that I haven't noticed mentioned is on those nights, or times during the night, when the bag is unzipped. The liner stops you feeling those faint movements of cool air which seem to disturb my sleep.

I've used a VB ( plastic rubbish bag and my VB top ) and I would have said that 0F (-18C) was the point at which they started to become useful, but they work and work very well indeed.
Also if you have the silnylon a VB liner would also very easy to sew up

No liner for me. I'd rather keep things as clean as possible sans liner and accept the fact that I'll have to wash my bag at some point. I don't use a tent liner or a shirt liner or an underwear liner either, although in retrospect there have been times the last of these would have been a good idea. For more warmth I take a bag with more insulation. Gram for gram down is warmer than any breathable liner.

Where did you get temperatures down to -18?

What did you make the vbl top out of?

They can be nice in a hammock under those conditions as well.

VBL top is an old one I picked up in an Op-Shop 30 years ago, it was made by Moonstone in the USA. but a close cut raglan sleeve pattern in all it is, with some mesh venting under the armpits, if I made one I would add a close fitting hood
In the USA on my trip to New York it got to -25C and lower but around Pretty Valley it quite regularly drops almost that low, cold enough anyway to freeze a dozen eggs solid overnite while in the warm tent

OK these are the only two I can find on eBay that actually appear to be 100% silk.

My wife and i picked up the '100% silk Cocoon Mummyliner' sleeping bag liners from Anaconda - at about 80% off IIRC (i think we payed around 15bux each) a couple of years ago.

Zero complaints and imo they certainly make a noticeable difference to assisting in good nights sleep on a 0 deg night which without i know id be cold.

I was just browsing the MLD site and found this http://www.mountainlaureldesigns.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=42&products_id=169. It's not cheap though and would be an easy DIY.

My favourite line from the product summary is
Great as a sketchy world traveler's bed liner to keep bugs and other crawlies off your "parts".
. Yep I had bugs and crawlies on my parts - nothing worse.

Not sure who writes the MLD stuff but they have some classics this for the temp rating of one of their quilts
Spirit Quilt 48
48 Degrees : Long sleeve shirt, 16.5 micron merino wool thong, socks
. The ultimate in ultralight underwear.

Sorry slow day at work :P .

Well my liner arrived this morning. Quality looks good and feels like real silk, but what would I know. More importantly, how do people sleep in these things?! Am going to cut it down into a fitted sheet for my Downmat :)
