TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Hi Forrest
There are lots of tutorials on the web,
Usually specific to a particular unit
Have a look at GPSCity.com

Youtube.com is your source of knowledge on this. You can even search for the specific unit you have.

What are you hoping to do with your GPS exactly? Log coordinates? Navigate to a route?

Zone-5 had some good links in an earlier thread: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=20076#p266797

Including this Garmin PDF document: Using a Garmin GPS with Paper Land Maps -http://www.weatherconnection.com/manuals/UsingaGarminGPSwithPaperLandMaps_Manual.pdf

Web forum is also 'web tutorial'. One-on-one? That's a luxury that you'll need to pay someone $$ or join a bushwalking club that's not technology averse. On a forum, it's always group talk with communal knowledge sharing unless one goes to PM.

Have you read the full manual for your gps?

After that, try your local library. I'd suggest starting with 910.285 as it's more directed at beginners.

I like the quirky bit of asking an online community for a decidedly old fashioned solution.

Maybe you could meet up with another walker in your area who uses a GPS and get some help. As you say, nothing better than some one on one guidance.

Once your getting the hang it maybe practice putting in way points in your local area or a place u know well. Just incase something goes wrong and u lose your way. Good luck.
