TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

KMart do have Sports Ltd down vests 192g (L) for $30 and down jackets 246g (L) for $35.
These are a bit lighter in weight than similar bushwalking products. No loft rating.
They pack very small- you can turn them in to a pocket.
These type of items are usually 4 to 8 times this price in your favourite bushwalking shops.
14 horizontal baffles. These are not bloated Michelin man designs. Uninsulated hoods in collar.
Elasticated cuffs on jacket. The zips are small size. No zips on pockets.
I bought one of each. They are warm to wear. Ideal kit for sleeping in. Quality looks OK.
Check your sizing and sleeve length...I maybe should have got the XL for the longer sleeves.
If you were to wear out 4 of these you would still be in front! I am thinking it is worth getting more! :D
There are no pictures on KMart.

I am going to submit these as candidates for bushwalking bargains of the year...

Thanks for that excellent description, Avatar. Sounds the same as what I have, but the vests were $20 and the jacket $29 in the store I went to in NSW.

Not brilliant quality stitching (though some looked better than others), but what's a bit of mending for a price like that. I don't like the dinky reflective spots on the sleeves, but hey, I can live with that. In the bush at least.

You're welcome Tortoise. $20 is amazing value. Don't knock the reflective sleeves if you wear black at night...
Going back for a spare set. These will do with my sleeping bag sleep kit...

Yes, I toyed with getting another one - maybe a jacket of a smaller size that'll go under it for more layering if i want. I ended up going for the size that was less firm, so i'd have room. Toying again...

I loathe puffer jackets, they are just so awful. Looks like they have been made from recycled sleeping bags. I could think of better jackets I could put that $30 towards...

Each to their own. Small, light, warm - works for me. Maybe it would be a bit weird if nobody else wore recycled sleeping bags. Then again, you should see what i wear on the bottom half on cold evenings in the bush!

Staying warm is much more important than how one might look.

I don't often fly the animal rights banner but I am guessing at this price the down/feathers might be live plucked from the birds. This really make me upset that the need for down has come at such a cost.

Ok, but staying warm AND looking great at the same time is so much better... ;)
