TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Repair down jacket.

My girlfriend caught her down jacket on the door the other night, and I'm wondering what's the best way to repair it? The tear is not overly large, a 5c piece could fit over the hole. I could put some form of tape over it, however I assume there are some better than others.

I've not had to fix a down jacket as yet, but have patched an older down sleeping bag. I used McNett Gear Aid Tenacious Tape. I think it also comes in small repair patches in various colours, but I just used the roll of tape I had, and cut out a circle for the fix.

I'd just oppose the edges, and put some seam sealer over them, or sew them together by hand and seal them....or stick on a patch. You could pinch some fabric from the inside of a pocket etc that is presumably the same fabric as the jacket, and glue it on with double sided tape. Tiergear sells double sided tape that will stick to most stuff except silinylon. Boating shops such as Whitworths Aldo sell rolls of adhesive sail repair tape in various colours.

Years ago I used a round self adhesive patch that came with my first Thermarest mattress [ before the hot melt kits] I always meant to sew around the edges but 20 years on and several washes and I still haven't done so
Ripstop repair tape works quite well
So the advice on sail repair tape is excellent

Another vote for tenacious tape. I used that to fix a 50c size hole in my puffy and it's held up fine for the past 6 months
