TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

ultralight tent/shelter

Postby ceweatherly » Mon 29 Jun, 2015 4:24 pm

Hi All,

I have an adventure race coming up of around 10 days. Its in QLD & we require a shelter for 4 people. The criteria is that it has to have a tub bottom & be a minimum of 2.5m2. We would like it to be light & cheap as we don’t plan on spending much time in it & won’t be needing it after the race. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there emergency type tents that would be suitable?

Thanks heaps in advance

Cheers

Clare

Get a Black Diamond Megalite with the tub floor and mossie net addition and sell it on after the race
Expect to lose 30% of the value
It will shelter 4 pax and the weight can be divided between you all
I may be interested myself and there is one other member already looking for one
Plenty of LW shelters it is the tub floor that will cost you
What's your lead time?
Even at TerraRosa could make you something, tub floor and a fly combination; with or without mossie net and that also could be sold on afterwards
losing 30 to 50% should be expected
You have said as cheap as possible but what's your realistic budget?

Just to confirm you want a 4 person tent with a tub floor of 2.5m2 where 4 people can sleep in for 9 nights in a row?

That's a square of 1.58m per side, leaving each person a ~40cm*1.6m area to sleep in.

Cheapest would be a homemade tarp + bathtub floor.

I guess if you make a simple a frame tarp of 2.5*2.5m out of tyvek (the stiff stuff) and a bathub of the same, and plan to pitch it using a couple of trees. You could probably make it for ~100$. It'd probably weigh less than 1kg, but I would classify that under the stupid-light category: http://andrewskurka.com/2012/stupid-lig ... or-better/
Men wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, bitter cold, long hours of complete darkness. Safe return doubtful.

Thanks Moondog. We need it by 1st August & the budgets not such a problem if I can resell it. I just contacted terrarosa to see what they could do. The megalite seems a little big for our needs. The tub floors only a new addition to the criteria for the race which is a pity!!

I suppose it depends on how big you are.
Being 187 and with a 117 chest either my feet or my head would be outside and I'd be crowding the other 3
Safety considerations tell me that is too small to be realistic when noting icefests comments.
Head to toe and crowded you need [ 550mm* 4pax] 2.2 metre wide and 2.4 metres long or a pyramid 2.4 *2.4 [ A Megamid/Megalite] sell you my old one for $100- and you can give it away afterwards but you will still need a tub floor
