TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

I might have a look today and see if Aldi has any left. $30 looks good value. My 13 yo son has gone to the Scouts State Rally at Cataract this weekend, and he's got my good titanium Optimus Crux canister stove and a ti pot. He had the riot act read to him as I gave it to him. Fingers crossed it comes back intact (he broke his sister's stove last time). Fire maple stuff is fine.

Addendum.
My titanium stove and pot made it home OK
I got one of these cook sets from Aldi today, and to all appearances they look like a Fire Maple rebrand (as were our original Kathmandu stoves). Looks robust enough to survive a 13 year old, but I do wonder how long the ignition apparatus will work for (though I have been pleasantly surprised by my Jetboil's piezo ignition, so time will tell)
We'll have a few cooking lessons in the near future.
If anyone wants weights or pics, let me know, I have some time off work to 'fiddle' with stuff

Edit. I see weights already listed.
I didn't see the bigger cooking pot set in the store, but (my) 13 year old doesn't drink tea or coffee so kettle not needed, and he's really only cooking instant pasta meals etc, so the pot/saucepan set is fine. And yes it fits the larger sized gas canister fine, with room for the stove and some backup matches, and a cut down scourer and chux wipe in the top section. Has a mesh bag to hold it together, no clips etc.

Gave the pots a whirl the other day. Not bad really although the handles on the small one were a bit flimsy, although not much weight in it so probably ok. Havnt used the stove yet though

Long term use review
Great value and has been easy to clean and I used the small kettle almost every day to boil water for my morning coffee and the smaller of the two pots is just the right size for a decent one-pot meal for me. So useful did I find it that my MSR pots never came out of storage.
Downside is not having a cup that fits inside the kettle

In case anyone is interested, I saw quite a few sets of these still for sale at the Aldi store in Hastings (VIC) just last weekend. It's about an hour or so drive from central Melbourne.

The small 2pot kit with the gas stove or the big kit with the 2 pots + frypan?
my local store ( Corio ) also has a few of the small sets left and I was thinking of buying one just for the stove to keep in the picnic bag

I believe it was the set with the gas burner.

Aldi have on sale the pot set again this saturday. It looks the same as last years model which has worked fine for me and costs $25 this year https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys ... set-4pc-1/ . I just used which pot or fry pan I needed with no complaints. Going on last years sales the cook set with burner will come on sale soon. Thanks Moondog for putting me onto these last year, they have worked out great

Yep also the socks are back which worked ok for me. Keen to check out the sleeping bags which are 0deg comfort rated. They seem to be slightly different each year

How do the socks perform, PD? Have you taken them on multi-day hikes?

I saw the sale notice in my letterbox so I would say get a set if you do not already have anything LW to cook in
Not sure about the SB but 300 GSM is usually reasonably warm insulation although I take the 0C comfort rating with a 10C pinch of salt

Havnt taken them on more than an overnight strider so not sure how they compare to say darn tough for durability, they do fine just for a weekend type trip though. $10 for 2 pairs cant complain

I just grabbed a set from Aldi, 1 frypan, 2 pots, grips for frypan, and a little kettle in a mesh bag for $25. Pretty cheap I reckon. The non stick doesn't look the best, but I really only wanted a couple of extra pots for boiling things so they shouldn't get scratched all that much.

Isn't the Aldi cookset hard anodised, not non-stick?

Just grabbed some more socks and guy lines and one of those solar chargers. Wont have a lot of use for it but $10 might be handy for charging the ipod

The set that comes with a burner takes the standard screw on canisters, the same used by MSR, Jetboil, Primus etc.
(Lindal valve)
Available from outdoor stores (Paddy Pallin, Anaconda, Aussie Disposals...)
tipicaly 100g/230g canisters (that is the gas content not the gross weight)
