TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

New to cannister stove use questions.....

Hi

I have a Mini Trangia, love the mini non stick frypan that came with it, not a fan of the windshield or the time it takes to boil water. I have just bought a Soto Windmaster
stove with both the 3 arm and 4 arm pot stands included. What I would like to know is will using the frypan from the Mini Trangia on the Soto Windmaster gas stove damage the frypan? Can I or should I use a diffuser?

As long as you control the temperature and don't overheat it empty it should be OK Jack.
Just remember it's not a blast furnace

yep, just go slow and easy and it will be fine, you'll need to monitor it, but you can also move the hotspot around, so that will be an advantage.

Tested a small 1 egg cheapy non stick frypan.(size of a large palm) Fried an egg perfectly and felt right. The Trangia mini non stick pan slid easily on the pot holder and is not as non stick as the egg frypan. A hacksaw to the handle of the cheapie pan and weight be stuffed till I can afford a lighter weight hiking nonstick frypan. Frying is important to me as I dont eat carbohydrates, so frying salami, cheese, eggs and high protein pancake mix will be my main food rather than dehyrdated or freeze dried just add water food. Suggestions of usuable lightweight hiking non stick frypans?

What's your pancake recipe ?

I've been keto on and off for a while but bushwalking food is difficult or heavy. I eat a lot of cold food and spam curries.

I am yet to perfect pancake recipe. Going to hunt down some of The Protein Bread Cos pancake mix and either do powdered egg or fresh egg for the egg part. All so looking at a hot chocolate concept with coconut milk powder or canned if I can't find un sweetened coconut milk powder.

I will report back how I go with the pancakes, will make extra of them for breakfast and use them for wraps for lunch maybe.

Website for pancake mix.

Thanks. There's 200Ml kantong coconut cream uht packs in many supermarkets now. There's also erythritol sweetened hot chocolate mix in most supermarkets if you're ok with sweeteners.

I just ordered some generic protein powder to test waffle / pancake recipes, hopefully something eventuates.

You might want to read the ingredient list in that "Coconut Milk" in the Kantong UHT packs :)
You can find good coconut powder online which has little to no sugar.

This is my favorite hot chocolate - no sugar at all, no sweetners - just cocoa and spices.
The cocoa has a nice taste and is not too bitter.
Its a little expensive but you only need a very small amount to make a mug.

When you perfect your protein pancakes...let us know your technique.
