removing old seam seal

The seam seal stuff on the fly of my tent is coming off (see pic). It's about 5 years old - is this normal? It's been treated well, never stored damp, never left in the sun for long periods. I guess I'll just reseal it myself but I'm wondering if there's a trick for removing the old stuff? Some of is peeling off but in other parts it's still quite well attached.

Pretty normal in my experience, I usually tear it off and reseal using silicon

Thanks MD and Franco - I probably could have found that myself if I wasn't being so lazy! I'll take to it with isopropyl.

You might try contacting the manufacturer. That's what I did when it happened to a tent and they offered to replace it free of charge.

I'd modified the tent so I declined their offer. The tape was peeling only in a few places. So rather than spend the effort removing large sections that were well attached, I left it alone and applied the appropriate seam sealant to the opposite side of the fabric -- the outside in this case.

Of course eventually a lot more of the tape came unglued, but it took a long time. And the tent was sealed the old fashioned way so it didn't matter.

I did actually email the manufacturer (Mont) a week ago or so. When I didn't receive an answer I posted on here. In the past I've found Mont's customer service to be good. When I somehow got a hole in my fly a few months after the tent they patched it for free, even though there was no suggestion it was a manufacturing fault. I did notice when looking at their website the other day though that it has turned into an online gear shop selling all sorts of stuff (not just Mont brand). Maybe their focus has shifted and the customer service will suffer...
