Socks for 'shapely' legs

TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Socks for 'shapely' legs

Postby Bogong Moth » Thu 05 May, 2016 11:45 am

Hi guys, I'm after suggestions for thick socks appropriate for bushwalking that won't be uncomfortably tight at the cuff. The majority of crew socks that fit at the foot don't fit at the mid calf, so usually I fold them down but that's not always ideal.
The ultimate solution I suppose is to knit some (yes I can knit a pair of socks!) However there are other things I would prefer to make with my DIY time!

All suggestions welcome

I understand. The only socks I use hiking now are Darn Tough (Vermont) socks. The Boot Sock, the Crew - all of them are comfortable and non-restrictive. The full cushion is particularly luxurious.
I also have their shorty no show and 1/4 crew and they are also comfy (for non-hiking purposes). Plus they come in awesome colours :)
I have not tried the Darn Tough over the calf sock.
socksaddict sell them.

I walk in trail runners and sometimes i'll pair them with 1/4 length Bonds socks - they are very well cushioned. You can get them cheaply at Woolies or Kmart or elsewhere if you wanted to try a pair. Otherwise, I have a pair of injinji toe socks and they are well cushioned and quite low cut as well - they might even fit a boot wearer if that's what you are.

DTV are the only socks I wear EVER! Amazing quality. The pair I bought in 2013 has worn thin a a couple of place but still not lost any shape.

Suz that's a good tip about the Bonds socks-- I think I'll look at them for my every-day wearing. And I love INjinjis for my runners!

It's looking set for an experimental sock-buying spree. Boy howdy do I live an exciting life!

+1 for DTV socks and socksaddict.com. I wear them exclusively and have bought them all from there.
