TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

We all hope we never use them and they are only used in dire life threatening circumstances when no other means of contacting emergency services can be used. It might be hard to find someone who has put one to the test.

This is the KTI link - http://kti.com.au/safety-alert-plb/

I have a GME unit I plan to get one of these KTI units when the GME expires in a few years.

Don't know if the original post is an advertisement, but the kti safety alert (as pictured) is a good bit of kit and from personal experience it is simple to use, very accurate and it worked exactly as advertised when it was needed. The battery replacement service from kti post-use was exceptionally good. The 10 year battery life is great (better than the competition when I bought it) plus you are supporting a quality Australian product. It is the best bit of life insurance that I have ever purchased.

Yes Mrs Gypsy
There is a long thread in the electronics page here

The SAG PLB seems to be the current leading contender
however GME has some new models out soon.

Great help John, thanks for your replies.
It wasn't an ad rather a genuine question to the forum after a search for it didn't come up with any other posts.
So I was curious to hear feedback good and or bad.
