TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

which part of the shoe fails first? I noticed just wearing strap crampons for a day the front of the shoes were fairly abraded, but I didnt realise off track walking was that harsh on shoes. Wouldnt gaiters give a good amount of protection to the top half?

You'd be crazy to pay full price, my new pair is costing ~AUD$235 delivered (including intl transaction CC fee). Current pair was $275.

Well, "at least" 65 I was just counting days in my photo collection (now 68 after the long weekend). The upper of the M3s is fine, as are the lugs, tongue etc. The sole has little tread left and is starting to get slippy, which is the main issue, but also there is some seperation in the innter behind the ankle and also the stitching on the back of the boot is badly worn. They've been well thrashed and have done some long days on dolerite (they still work well on rock, probably better now with low tread!). They may be revive-able, but they are going to be relegated to backups.
