TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. How come Henry Shire Tarp Tents haven't got a mention in either tent thread, or did i miss it? I've always wished for one of those due to extra light weight, 3 of my friends have them, though don't use them much, they like them, but i keep wondering if they are strong, as they are not cheap and i use my tent a lot? I'm not too fussed about the weight, sure tarp tents are good because they're so light, but I don't like them personally. From what I see you need walking poles to put them up and they are so thin and look like you would be an icicle in the places I want to go. I'm dead keen on a Hilleberg now, but that's just me!

Hi Bushwalker zane,
Most tarptents do not require walking poles to put them up and any model that you can use a walking pole with, you can also get a lightweight pole to suit, I have done this with my Contrail, my Moment does not use walking poles as it has its own poles as has the Scarp.

Ah, thank you for enlightening me. I would have assumed this would be the case, as not everyone wants to take walking poles.

i purchased my Akto from Moontrail, very good service and there bonus point system works well, you can also use the points to lower thre price of the tent

I've had a -2 night in my Scarp1 and I was toasty, no poles required, higher than the Akto and 2 vestibules which is important for me. Only question still to be answered is how it will stand up to high winds. I'm still happy with it.

What's it like for condensation? For instance, when pitched on one of the tent platforms in the WArthurs?

When I'll get around to getting a Hilleberg I'll either get it from Moontrail or their website directly.
