Enlightened Equipment Quilts

TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

There are serious savings to be made with the use of 750 duck down in quilt production based on current prices of down.

Hi Simon, yes great value, just put in an order for the same again, #1339. Lets see how long this one takes.
I have just spent an hour inside the tent (seam seal is drying from yesterday still) and I did a sim set up. The Neopad, the quilt, the liner, all snug. I was aware of the strap issue from upthread and got it right by adjusting the pad loop so that the buckles are on the topside of the pad set 10cm in from the pad edge.
When I rolled the quilt up I did so loosely so as not to compress and it was the size of a sleeping bag - ie, once in the stuff sack it was similar to a regular sleeping bag size. I think I will roll it tighter next time...

Why are you rolling it? If you don't want to compress the down then use the storage sack that it comes with. Stuffing into a stuff sack for short periods won't hurt it.

Re: Enlightened Equipment Quilts

Went for a 2 night, 3 day walk.
All up I'm a happy camper except for two mistakes.
1. didn't set up the tent vents properly so I got cond/frost inside the tent (foot end of the EE Quilt dried in 10mins at lunchtime; tent was another story)
2. the thing that bugged me was I took the wrong beenie. I had a old faithful neck warmer (from my biking times) but the beenie was too small to cover both ears fully and the air was nippy.

I camped 2 nights in Namadgi NP about 35km from my house according to Mr Garmin. I was at 1325m at Cotter Gap on the AAWT and the thermometer said -5 in the morning. The water in the bottle froze. My HTC gave me errors and wouldn't do a movie. In pic mode it actually said "Too cold to function the flash properly" or something. Never seen that before. The GPS was ok except the screen protector "sticker" bubbled up. Strange sciences.

Anyway I had the EE over my head and the liner too and this was to warm up the air to breathe. When I had a 5am leak...as you do... the outside air in my lungs gave me big shivers real quick. I can get asthma in cold air (only time it happens) but after last winter in Canberra, well... the last 6 months I have been doing the right thing -spending cash- and using $ymbicort so at 5am I had no telltale whistle in my airway. Good.
The frost was significant. The dirt on the track was crunchy up to about 10am.
These photos are time marked as 0815am.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-N3rL ... 0x1400.jpg

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-N_-T ... 1x1400.jpg

The EE worked as advertised and comfort was only an issue for my head (that beenie).

Also, I will look for a better designed inflatable pillow, a lighter footprint tarp, some more stuff sacks (poly garden bags from Bunnings were tough enough but noisey).

Wanting advice from EE quilt owners on an ideal size dry bag, in litres, for EE 20F? What do you recommend? Thanks.

I use a macpac nylon sack, XL size, and the packaging says 18L. Looks like the average sleeping bag sack with a simple drawstring. Cost $10 at a macpac shop on sale.

Finally got a leave pass from the wife and took off for a night last weekend to Shadow Lake. The new pad straps are a huge improvement! Would make more sense to make your own usibg the buckles on existing strappage rather than buy from Tim though.

How is your quilt going kitty?

Couldn't resist the present offer.
Got a Long/Slim 10f Revelation. That should fill the only gap I had in my sleeping kit.

I'm very happy with my ee quilt, and much prefer my new sleep system which is more comfortable, warmer and lighter than my old system. I now use an ee quilt and downmat ul7, which has replaced my prolite+sleeping bag combo. My concerns about drafts were unfounded, that strap system works really well. I cannot imagine going back to using a sleeping bag, the quilt is too comfy.

I'm thinking of jumping on board. Could anybody with a Regular or ideally Short length quilt possibly please measure the length of it for me? That's the one thing I can't find anywhere on the website, and I want to be able to compare it with my current quilt before I order.

Thanks very much.

The small is for users 5'6 and shorter (5'8 max) and the next size is for 6'0 and shorter. I'm fairly certain mine is a short. I'll double check and post its measurement

Thanks, Mic. I did see the recommended size for the height of the person OK, but I want to be able to directly compare the length with my current quilt, so I know exactly what I'm choosing. :)
Edit: Being 5'0", i might be able to pull the short one over my head, but it'd be a close call.

Im just under 6 foot and have the regular length as suggested by Tim. I can snuggle under it no worries. I went with the wide though which is great.

I probably do sleep with my knees slightly bent though (side sleep) Having said that I roll onto my stomach during the night and have never had cause to wish I bought the long.

I originally intended to go with the long but the reg has been fine.

Well I think that settles that then - I'm going to get a quilt!

I'm about 6'2 and weigh about 90kgs, so I think a Revelation 20F (-6C) Long Wide should be suitable. I will email Tim to see what he thinks, but I'm almost certain that that type should be ok.

Interesting. Thanks for that, Picaro.

Just at the checkout stage now and it seems the only difference is to the EE site is that they charge you for the wider (+$5) and longer (+$10) version.

How does it go combating the cold, Magichat?

There's another thread in the Special Discounts section where another user is suggesting the 10F for that extra bit of warmth to combat Tassie climates.
