TIP: The online
Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

the pack is plenty big
the windstopper will be ok as a midlayer.
i'd soak it in water and see how much weight it gains and how eaily the water drains off. ... if its holds a lot and doest drin the water off well lot then it won't be a good bet in heavy rain, even under a raincoat., in really havy reain you just accumulate sweat in your clothes.

I ended up paying for an Arc'teryx Beta FL from the US before Backcountry.com told me about their shipping restrictions, which are quite broad. I'm now awaiting receipt of a Montane Venture, on Wayno's advice. I would have really liked the Arc'teryx, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. With the Venture, I'll hopefully have a pretty durable jacket for backpacking, and can look at something lighter for adventure races if I get more seriously into those.
I'm getting pretty close to complete on my gear list now, with only a vest or something else for around the hut and cutlery, string, water purification tabs, etc left to get.

well after a few emails i'd say darrell considered his options thoroughly and came to his own conclusion on the venture jacket , he knew exactly what he was looking for in a jacket i went through different jacket design fatures with him, and he chose the one that fitted his purpose the best given the variety of actitivies hes going to do from bush walking to adventure racing.

Just a few (hundred) emails... I'm pretty confident that the gear I've bought will acquit itself well if the weather turns bad. Now the anxiety of waiting for it all to arrive sets in.
Thanks once again.
If you're interested in the other stuff that I have bought so far, I can try to do up a list.
