TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

slr's generally win hands down when it comes to action photography, usually have a big edge in speed of response, and auto focus...

Oops, haven't been here for a while, just saw there is a whole post on the Sony A7R over in the photography section...

And the other thing I didn't mention is battery life, the Sony chews through it's battery much faster than the DSLR. Both multiday trips (3 day and 4 day) I've used it for I've gotten through on one charge. The battery charges via a USB cable so it can be re-charged via a external battery pack and I usually carry one of those which can also be used for charging phone and Steripen.

I used to carry a 5D2 plus a couple of lenses, heavy but great photos.
Went traveling and bought an RX100, loved it so much that I got the RX1.
Now it is a year since I touched the Canon, gave it to my brother.
I have ordered the new Sony A7R and can't wait to get it, I can use my good Canon lenses on this camera.
Full frame goodness and a sensor that leaves the canon for dead.
Light weight but no compromise.
What I love about the RX1 and expect from the A7R is the dynamic range and colour, so much better than canon.
All from a camera that I can slip into my jacket pocket. Now with a 36megapixel sensor
